Self-Driving Car Challenges

Google and General Motors provided a detailed look at the challenges involved in getting consumers to accept self-driving cars during a Congressional hearing on Tuesday.

Top-Selling Vehicles Of 2015

The 2015 Ford Mustang: If it was cool enough for Steve McQueen, it’s cool enough for everybody. It’s the top-selling sports car in the U.S.

Are the best movies the ones with the longest lines? The best Broadway shows the ones that you can’t get a discounted ticket for? The best restaurants the ones where you can’t get a table on a Saturday night?

The truth is that “the best” is in the eye of the beholder, and varies from person to person and household to household. Frank Sinatra recorded a song called “Nothing but the Best,” in which Ol’ Blue Eyes suggests that a Lincoln is the best ride. With a few weeks of the year left, though, the best-selling cars in the U.S. in the 10 categories we’ve examined are pretty clear based on sales volumes through November.

Every form of endeavor probably has its truisms and clich├ęs.  Some are worth remembering; some not so much. But either way, here is RideApart’s anthology of selected motorcycle truisms, not necessarily ranked in any order or included based on any profound underlying truth.  In fact, it's often the case that truisms just aren’t always true.

Gasoline Tax Map

In last week’s post about ExxonMobil’s 2013 earnings, I noted that we earned about 5.5 cents for every gallon of gasoline and other petroleum products we refined, shipped, and sold in the United States.

Consider this: The federal and state and local governments collected 40 to 60 cents per gallon in taxes.

The American Petroleum Institute just updated their map showing the combined local, state and federal tax rate in each state as of Jan. 1, when new taxes took effect.

13 Best Motorcycles For MPG

Unlike my general disdain and subtle aggression towards street-clogging cars, overly smug Prius drivers, and bloated “crossover” SUVs, I’ve never hidden my love of 2-wheeled motor vehicles. In addition to being cheaper, faster, sexier, and (I am wholly and utterly convinced) safer than 4-wheeled “cages”, 2 wheelers typically give back more mpg than conventional cars, making fuel-efficient motorcycles a great alternative for environmentally conscious commuters who aren’t afraid to get a little wet every now and again.
